Cruisin' down an extremely rough dirt road recently brought back memories of the roads in my community when I was growing up. Nowadays almost all of these roads are paved but in the '50's they were all dirt or occasionally dirt with some gravel.
Cruisin' past the old M & M bake shop location on North 6th Ave recently caused my mind to wander back to the marvelous baked goods of my youth. We didn't have M&M in those days so baked goods were mostly homemade.
Cruisin' past a field where hay was being baled recently and smelling that unmistakable smell of fresh mown and raked hay, reminded me of many activities done around the farm in the 50's and 60's that have drastically changed or are seldom seen in today's world.
Cruisin' past the intersection of South Magnolia and Carroll Gartin Boulevard and seeing an almost empty parking lot, caused my memory to wander back to that grand old building that once occupied that prime location.
Cruisin' past the Pinehurst Park in downtown Laurel recently caused my memory to wander back to the days when the Pinehurst Hotel occupied that location. Waxing sentimental about the Pinehurst brought back memories of other classic old Laurel buildings of my youth.
Cruisin' around on a day trip and entering a busy restaurant where several male customers were eating lunch, while wearing baseball caps, caused my memories to wander back to times when this was not acceptable dining etiquette.
